Welcome to the World of Tempest!
This site is dedicated to Tempest boats and yachts, designed and produced in the eighties and the nineties to be the best marine crafts in the world! Their styling was futuristic, ahead of its time, their strength and performance was always a paramount factor in their design process. Numerous photographs and test results of Tempest models as well as reprints from various foreign and domestic trade magazines are available for viewing and reading on this site. There are also video clips featuring selected boats running at high speeds.
There were 120 vessels built by Tempest in one decade, ranging in size from 23’ to 88’ in length. They were powered by a variety of different power plants including, gasoline outboards, inboard/outboards, diesel inboards and gas turbines. In order to attain the highest level of reliability at high speeds, a new, no-maintenance surface piercing drive system had to be developed. The T-Torque Drive System was introduced in 1985 and received US Patent #4,919,630.
In 1982 Tempest Yachts was formed and headquartered in South Florida. Our yachts and boats featured competitive advantages by utilizing the highest quality materials and luxurious finishes. Tempest boats incorporated the use of military quality materials never before seen on any production boats.
Larger yachts were constructed of fiberglass hulls and light alloy superstructures for individual styling and a very important low center of gravity. This contributed to their superior seaworthiness and improved handling.
The high-speed, 40 + knots boats were built out of Kevlar utilizing vinylester resins, to benefit stronger and more resilient hulls. The lightweight sandwich construction was utilized in decks and superstructures but never in the hull bottoms.
Whether you are a marine professional, a vessel operator, yacht owner or just an enthusiast of performance boating, please drop me a line with your comments or questions through the Contact section of this site. I would love to hear from you.
